- A mandatory educational qualification for all approved categories of Grami will be a Secondary School Examination pass certificate of 10th standard with passing marks in Mathematics, the local language, and English (having been studied as compulsory or elective subjects) conducted by any recognised Board of School Education by the Government of India/State Governments/Union Territories in India. (See Directorate Order No. 17-31/2016-GDS dated June 25, 2018)
- The candidate must have studied the local language at least up to the tenth grade [as compulsory or optional subjects] as determined by the State Government or as per constitutional rules relating to the Constitution of India's 8th schedule.\

As of the date of notice of the openings on 23.08.2021, the minimum and maximum age for engagement to GDS positions will be 18 and 40 years, respectively.The following groups have permissible relaxations in the upper age limit:
